Wolverhampton Archaeology Group has been actively engaged in archaeology
since the year 2000 and founding members have been trained by
professional archaeologists, including Time Team's Professor Mick Aston.
We
have the ability to conduct small-scale open excavations and test pits,
carry out resistivity and magnetometer surveys and drone photography.
We also carry out research and produce desktop surveys using information
from historical environment records, local archives, aerial images,
maps and LiDAR surveys.
Monthly
meetings feature guest speakers who give presentations on a wide range
of topics. We exhibit at a number of local history fairs and arrange
field trips to archaeological and historical sites of interest. Our
links with schools and societies in the area means we are able to give
children and members of the public an insight into archaeology through
our 'community digs'.
Membership is currently £20 per annum,
which includes free admission to our monthly presentations and access to
all on-going projects. Your subscription covers the cost of insurance
while on site and we provide all the necessary tools and instruction if
you are new to archaeology. All that we ask is that your anti-tetanus
vaccination is up-to-date. If you'd like to give archaeology a try
without making a commitment, just come along to one of our meetings, visit us at a public event or get in touch via the Contact page.
